Homeopathy – The Missing Link
A documentary series to be launched in January 2016 will comprise 6 parts of a maximum length of 15 minutes with each containing interviews recorded during 2015. The following video is a pilot of the series that will contain up-to-date interviews and content from the producers.
With homeopathy involved in a political imbroglio in the United Kingdom, this documentary pilot illustrates (by interviews with researchers, professionals, politicians and personalities) homeopathy’s current position and where it is likely to progress in the future.
While David Cameron’s coalition government is keeping homeopathy on the NHS for the short term at least, skeptic activities have created a precarious position, both for alternative medicine and for a public interested in free choice.
The documentary explores the state of homeopathy in the UK and then discusses its broad support across the world, such as the New England Journal of Medicine’s finding that over 50% use alternative medicine, including homeopathy, but 90% never tell their provider.
We also learn about some of the non-political challenges for homeopathy, such as a lack of adequate funding for research.
We learn that the extensive clinical evidence of homeopathy’s effect is frequently ignored and research areas of special interest to homeopaths and homeopathy, stymied.
Despite this, new and interesting things are coming to light about homeopathic materials, such as electromagnetic signals, dyes that change colour in the presence of homeopathic potencies, and even optical effects where there appears to be a unique luminescent property of remedies under certain kinds of laboratory testing.
Into an even more speculative and exciting arena, we learn about research into “homeopathic nanoparticles” – where a 30C remedy has a different nanoparticle profile to a 200C because of the succussion and dilution process.
Silica nanoparticles rubbed off the glass container during the succussion appear to enhance the effects of homeopathic remedies by coating, stabilising and amplifying the effects of the original substance.
More research is always needed, and it’s hoped that this six-part documentary, each 15 minutes in length, will be part of the push towards better funding and prominence.
