How Often to Dose with a 30C Homeopathic Remedy

PilulepromotionThe following instructions are suitable for the self-treatment of simple acute (short-lived) problems such as coughs, colds and digestive upsets with a 30C potency.

One dose equals one sugar-pill or pellet, or ¼ dropper (5-7 drops) of liquid, placed in the mouth to be dissolved and absorbed.

Chronic (long-lasting) conditions require changes in remedies, potencies, size of dose and frequency of repetition which are beyond the scope of self-treatment. Please see a homeopathic practitioner for guidance on these conditions.

Minor Conditions (for which you would probably not seek professional help)

Examples: A mildly sprained ankle, or a nuisance-value sore throat.

Dose: Every 4 hours until symptoms start to improve. With improvement space the doses further apart taking a dose when symptoms start to return. If there is no improvement at all by 3 doses (after 12 hours) choose a more suitable remedy or contact your homeopath.

Troubling Conditions (for which you might seek professional help)

Examples: A painful and swollen sprained ankle that can tolerate some weight, or a troublesome sore throat.

Dose: Every 2 hours until symptoms start to improve. With improvement space the doses further apart, taking a dose when symptoms return. If there is no improvement at all by 3 doses (after 6 hours) choose a more suitable remedy or contact your homeopath.

Serious Conditions (for which you would seek professional help)

Examples: A painful and swollen ankle that you cannot place any weight on, or a sore and red throat that makes eating or drinking difficult.

Dose: Every ½ hour until symptoms start to improve. With improvement space the doses further apart, taking a dose when symptoms return. If there is no improvement at all by 3 doses (after 1 1/2 hours) choose a more suitable remedy or contact your homeopath.

Emergency Situations (Conditions for which you would phone urgently for an ambulance)

Examples: An obviously broken ankle where the bone has pierced the skin and the person is in severe pain or shock, or a painful, swollen throat that is leading to suffocation.

Dose: Every 15 seconds to a minute while waiting for the ambulance. If the remedy is correct there should be a rapid improvement in symptoms. With improvement space the doses further apart. If there is no improvement at all by 3 – 6 doses (after 1 – 2 minutes), change to another remedy.

Information About Aggravations

Sometimes an aggravation follows a dose of a remedy.

An aggravation is a temporary intensification of symptoms because the dose was either too strong or repeated too often for what was needed. Aggravations are non-toxic and settle once the remedy is stopped. They are harmless and normally mild.

When an improvement in symptoms follows when the aggravation has settled, the remedy was correct but another dose should only be given if improvement stalls or symptoms start to return.

If symptoms don’t improve once an aggravation settles, the remedy choice was likely incorrect. Symptoms should be re-examined and a better-matching remedy chosen.

Information About Other Potencies

Lower potencies such as 6C cover a wide range of general symptoms so are ideal if you are not sure that you have chosen the best remedy for your symptoms.

Higher potencies have to be more precisely matched to symptoms if a curative response is to be triggered.

Medium potencies such as 30C are a good choice for home prescribers who have some familiarity with homeopathy.
