Sore and Sticky Eyes of Infants
Sticky and infected eyes are a common complaint in babies. Unless the problem is serious, the usual advice is to regularly wipe the affected eye with a clean swab moistened with normal saline. Gently massaging the tear duct will also help if it is blocked and causing the problem. Sometimes antibiotic eye-drops are prescribed but most contain mercury – a neurotoxin that is best avoided.
